Production Blog: Editing Research and Video Editing Progression:

In this video editing session I focused on my titles alongside other more minuscule details. I also took some time to analyze other pieces of cinematography in order to gain a better sense of what "works". I mostly studied montage-esque and how intensity scenes. My main focus is to perfect the scenes where there is a lot of movement and action because I am not used to editing scenes of this type. Some of the material I used was from Space Jam (1997). I specifically watched the ending scene in which the MonStars were defeated. While the pace of this scene was not as fast, I could still observe the large amounts of editing that were used. Space Jam is a film with an abundance of CGI which entails a lot of editing to make things look as realistic as possible. The film utilized a lot of medium shots in its action scenes, as oppose to the full body shots you'd expect. I may adjust my footage in post to eliminate a few full body shots in order to hide some of my mechanical mistakes when handling the basketball (I am not Michael Jordan). The other film that I studied was Uncle Drew (2018). This film was more traditional in its editing style and was a lot more fast paced in its action. One thing that I took from this film was its use of transitions, they used the ball traveling from one scene to another to link certain actions, which I found quite interesting. I definitely will be testing this type of transition out in my scenes where a lot of action is taking place. The film also used many, many jump cuts and action matches which I also utilized in my own film. When studying these films I was mainly focused on the pacing that they created through their editing styles.

Other than this slight research that I did to improve my editing, I also began working on my title animations. In the previous entry, I discussed that I was thinking about using Premiere Pro as opposed to Sony Vegas to animate my titles, I am still unsure as to which I will settle on, but I am sticking with Vegas for now. I will be making my final decision based on how smoothly the editing goes in Vegas, and it is going well so far.
