I wrote about the search for actors in my last blog. It was a problem finding actors. It made all of us very nervous. But, something made us more nervous. That thing is scheduling. Scheduling is very tricky. Especially when one of our groupmates has a job. The job is only part time, but it is hard to change working shifts. So, when filming day approached, we had to work around his job. His job had him working Sunday, Friday, and Wednesday. So, we planned to go on Thursday. This was so we could have an extra day to film in case anything went wrong. But, what we didn't know is that our other group mate had a part time job as well. He had just started his job and could not take days off. If he took a day off during training, it would look very bad on him. Usually, this would be good news but, one of the days he had to work was Thursday. So obviously, we couldn't film on Thursday. So...
My name is Carl Henri Backer. I am a high school senior, and I attend Fort Lauderdale High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I took AICE Media Studies AS-Level last school year and decided to take A-Level because I enjoyed the class very much. I really liked filming and learning about the things that must happen behind the scenes. I am interested in doing a more in-depth film project this year. This year, unlike last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I will be able to work with my friends that chose to take A level Media Studies. Since I love watching movies, learning about film production in AICE Media Studies was very appealing. I have found it fun to learn about the different camera angles and editing practices so far, and I am excited to begin creating films due to the greater levels of creative freedom there are in A-Level Media Studies compared to AS-Level. What I have learned so far in AICE Media Studies are different film terms and what they look like in real...
Production Blog: Shooting for my film continued on the 10th of March. At this session, we re-shot a few scenes which included Carl, and we got to shoot scenes with the college scout. The actor who was supposed to play the college scout was now available so the scenes which included his character were able to be filmed. Most of the shots that we took a second take of were dialogue shots as well as closeups. The initial shots weren't bad, per say, but I thought they definitely could have been improved upon. Capturing the proper tone of voice as well as the correct facial expression for each scene was harder that I had anticipated it would be. The scene where Carl receives the phone call from the college scout gave me the most trouble. On this filming date, I didn't have to do much as a director because the scenes with the college scout went unexpectedly well. I believe my actor is a good physical actor and the scout has limited dialogue so he was comfortable in that role. Due t...
