My name is Carl Henri Backer. I am a high school senior, and I attend Fort Lauderdale High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I took AICE Media Studies AS-Level last school year and decided to take A-Level because I enjoyed the class very much. I really liked filming and learning about the things that must happen behind the scenes. I am interested in doing a more in-depth film project this year. This year, unlike last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I will be able to work with my friends that chose to take A level Media Studies. Since I love watching movies, learning about film production in AICE Media Studies was very appealing. I have found it fun to learn about the different camera angles and editing practices so far, and I am excited to begin creating films due to the greater levels of creative freedom there are in A-Level Media Studies compared to AS-Level. What I have learned so far in AICE Media Studies are different film terms and what they look like in real...
Production Blog: Editing Research and Video Editing Progression: In this video editing session I focused on my titles alongside other more minuscule details. I also took some time to analyze other pieces of cinematography in order to gain a better sense of what "works". I mostly studied montage-esque and how intensity scenes. My main focus is to perfect the scenes where there is a lot of movement and action because I am not used to editing scenes of this type. Some of the material I used was from Space Jam (1997). I specifically watched the ending scene in which the MonStars were defeated. While the pace of this scene was not as fast, I could still observe the large amounts of editing that were used. Space Jam is a film with an abundance of CGI which entails a lot of editing to make things look as realistic as possible. The film utilized a lot of medium shots in its action scenes, as oppose to the full body shots you'd expect. I may adjust my footage in post to eliminate...
For the short film I will be making this year it is possible to work in a group. Last year, I could also work in a group for my film intro. Last year, I chose to work with alone. This year, I entered the class slightly late so I had to join a group that was already formed. Luckily, I joined a group that consisted of a few friends. My group consists of Nicholas Arnold, Kyle Weiner, and Grant Cipollone. Last year, Grant worked with one person in his AS-Level class: Nicholas Arnold. He worked with Nicholas Arnold who happens to also be a friend of mine and they luckily got into the same A-Level class and formed the group that I would join a bit later. For the movie intro they made last year, they needed more actors than previously anticipated, so they asked for some help from friends that had taken Media Studies before themselves. Among them was Kyle Weiner, another member of our friend group. Kyle took Media Studies AS level before they had, so they co...
