Shooting Script 

Scene 1 

- Establishing shot of basketball court

Fades into young man tying his shoes on a basketball court, with a basketball next to him. 

- Young man's friend tells him something in a joking manner.

- Young man responds back to his friend in a similarly joking manner. 

- The young man begins to get up when his cellphone rings. 

- Camera zoom in on the cellphone, as well as medium shots of the young man and his friend; eyeline match as he looks at his phone

- Diagetic Sound: Cellphone ringing. 

- Non-diagetic sound: Upbeat hip hop song fades in. 

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade. 

Scene 2 

- Young man picks up his cellphone with a lingering smile on his face. 

- His smile fades as the person on the opposite end of the line speaks to him. 

- He quickly stands up and responds to the mysterious caller's apparent question. 

- The young man hangs up on the mysterious caller.

- Close up shot of the young man 

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

 - Diagetic Sound: Unintelligible sounds of the mysterious caller conversing with the young man.

- Non-Diagetic Sound: Hip-hop music stopping abruptly.

Scene 3 

- Young man tells his friend the news that he received over the phone. 

- The young man's friend shows excitement for him and makes a comedic remark as the young man begins to take his leave. 

- The young man quickly grabs his belongings, says his farewells to his friend, and leaves the basketball court.

- Close up shots of the young man and his friend; long shot as he leaves.

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

- Diagetic Sound: Dialogue between the friends. 

- Non-Diagetic Sound: Hip hop music fading back into the scene slowly. 

Scene 4 

- The young man is seen practicing alone at another basketball court.

- A voice says something to him from an unseen place and the young athlete turns around. 

- Over the shoulder shot as her turns to face the voice; low and high angled shots as the young man is practicing. Pans and tilts and he is practicing by himself.

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

- Diagetic Sound: Basketball bouncing & rim/hoop noises. 

- Non-Diagetic Sound: Hip hop music

Scene 5 

- The voice is revealed to be the voice of a college basketball scout who approaches the young basketball player. 

- The scout approaches the athlete and begins conversing with him. 

- The scout asks the athlete a simple question to which the athlete has a quick response to. 

- The athlete runs to his basketball that is on the ground 

- The scene fades to black 

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

- Diagetic Sound: Conversation between the two characters & basketball bouncing. 

- Non-Diagetic Sound: Hip hop music (lowered) 

Scene 6 

- The scene fades in from black

- The basketball player goes back to practicing similarly to how he was doing before. 

- The scout is tentatively watching the athlete play, while taking notes down. 

- The athlete is performing with significantly more effort than when he was practicing earlier. 

- action match

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

Diagetic Sound: Pencil writing, Basketball bouncing, rim noises. 

Scene 7 

- The visibly tired young man is approached by the scout once again

- The athlete excitedly asks the scout a question that the scout answers quite neutrally. 

- The scout takes his leave while the athlete looks slightly disappointed. 

- Scene fades to black 

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

- Diagetic Sound: Basketball bouncing, footsteps 

- Non-Diagetic Sound: Hip hop music (lowered)

Scene 8: 

- The scene fades in from black 

- The young man meets up with his friend once again 

- The friend excitedly asks the young man a question that the young man responds to disappointingly.

- The young man's friend asks to play their game of one on one that was interrupted the other day. 

- The young man cheers up and takes up his friend's offer. 

- Shot reverse shot as the two are speaking. 

- Fade to black  

- Diagetic Sound: Conversation 

- Non-Diagetic Sound: upbeat Hip hop music

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade. 

Scene 9: 

- fade from black

- the young man and his friend are visibly tired from the game of basketball. 

- the young man makes a quip to his friend about not being able to beat him one on one. 

- the friend makes a comedic retort. 

- the young athlete's phone rings once again.

-  Non-Diagetic Sound: Hip hop music

Scene 10: 

- The young man receives a call from the college scout  

- The young man apologizes to his friend for leaving him abruptly once again. 

- Lighting: Sunny, with slight shade.  

- Diagetic Sound: basketball bouncing, phone ringing

- Non-Diagetic Sound: Dramatic Music 


Opening Sequence Script (dialogue)

Scene 1 

- Carl's Friend: "I hope you're ready to get your butt kicked." 

- Carl: "You know you've never beaten me one on one right? Today's not any different." 

- Carl Friend: "We'll see whos talking at the end of the game." 

- Carl: "Bet, check u-"

Scene 2 

- Carl: "Hello?" 

- Unknown Caller: *speaking* 

- Carl: "Yes I'm ready any time." 

- Unknown Caller: *speaking* 

- Carl: "Ok, I'll be there."

Scene 3 

- Carl: "Bro that was a scout for the college I was talking to a couple weeks ago, he said that he wants to do a private workout with me." 

- Carl's Friend: "Wow that's great, but you still need to catch this L in this one on one." 

- Carl: "I think I'll pass for today, I have some things I have to take care of." 

- Carl's Friend: "Hmm, remember this L is just postponed, no canceled." 

- Carl: "Yeah ok. See ya!" 

Scene 4 

- Unknown Person: "Looking good."

Scene 5 

- Carl: "Are you...?"

- Scout: "Sure is. Now that you've asked me a question, how bout I ask you one?" 

- Carl: "Shoot." 

- Scout: "Are you ready?" 

- Carl: "Always."

Scene 6 

- No Dialogue 

Scene 7 

- Scout: "You good?"

- Carl: "Yeah, I'm fine. So what's up? Do I pass?" 

- Scout:"Well you definitely did well. I can't make a decision though, all I can do is take this information back to my team." 

- Carl: "Alright then, I appreciate it." 

Scene 8: 

- Carl's Friend: "Yooo!"

- Carl: "Whats up."

- Carl's Friend: "So what happened with the college scout? I know they signed you up right? 

- Carl: "Well, not really. All he said was that he'll go back to his team to discuss it." 

- Carl's Friend: "At least there's still a chance."

- Carl: "I guess." 

- Carl's Friend: "Well anyways, don't think I forgot about the L you're supposed to take today." 

- Carl: *laughs* "We'll see."

Scene 9: 

- Carl: "Man you just never learn."

- Carl's Friend: "Bro it was a fluke, you're just lucky." 

- Carl: "I don't think luck can be this consistent."  

Scene 10: 

- Carl: "Hello?" 

- Caller: *speaking*

- Carl: "Ok, I'm on my way."

- Carl: "Yo, I got to go. Catch you later!"
